Thank you for purchasing a Reading Response with your Fur, Feathers, Fins and Scales workshop registration! Here’s what you need to know:
What to submit
Two separate pieces of micro prose, up to 300 words each (not including the title). These can be pieces generated during our workshop or work you bring from elsewhere—either is welcome!
Please note: a single 600-word piece will not be accepted in place of two pieces. The pricing is the same if you choose to submit one or two 300-word pieces. This structure is what works best for us given our time, energy, and other commitments.
Content guidelines
We look forward to reading your work on any subject, including difficult or complicated material—grief, trauma, loss, hard choices. That said, we reserve the right to decline to respond to work that contains racist, hateful, or gratuitously harmful content. If this happens, we’ll let you know and the add-on fee will be refunded less a $35 administrative fee.
Deadline
Both pieces must be submitted no later than September 26, 2026. We ask that you do not send “updated” work once your work has been submitted. Please send us your work here.
Response timeline
You’ll receive written thoughts from both of us within 3 weeks of the workshop, or 3 weeks from when we receive your work, whichever is later. In other words: submitting early doesn’t start the clock until after the workshop, but submitting late does push your response date back accordingly.
What you’ll receive
A short paragraph of reflection per piece, written by both of us (it’ll be clear what’s from Abby and what’s from Darien). This is a personal, close reading rather than an editorial critique or line edit.
Important! Please read carefully
These comments are offered for your personal and private use. They are not an endorsement of the work and may not be used, quoted, shared, or referenced as an endorsement or blurb—in query letters, marketing materials, social media, book covers, or elsewhere.
